Sand Cast Footprint
Pretty much everyone has seen or heard the "footprints in the sand" poem. This may shock you, but I don't agree with it. It sounds lovely but supposedly, from the poem, God only carries us when we can't handle life or keep going on our own. I don't think we were ever meant to walk alone ever! He is there to carry us everyday, no matter what the circumstances. He's not just a by stander that picks us up when we need it, He's there everyday, all the time and in every situation. Nice sounding poem though.

Plaster of Paris is used in many of the crafts here on our site. It's a very versatile material and wonderful to have on hand. Check out our other crafts that use Plaster of Paris. Sand cast heart and sand cast ornaments.
Make sure the sand is moist, not sopping wet. Press the child's foot firmly into the sand. Make sure there is an impression that is at least 1/2" deep.
This is what it looks like after the impression has been made. You can make the edges more firm, if need be, by using the back edge of a spoon to press lightly down and make the impression deeper and clearer.
Mix the plaster of paris according to directions and pour into the foot impression. Don't worry if the plaster goes "out of the lines" a bit. You can shave with a knife later. Wait an hour before lifting it out of the sand.
Here is what it looks like after you take it out of the sand. More sand will fall off as it dries. Take a sharp knife and gently shave the edges that seem ragged (while plaster is still setting, but be careful not to break off a large chunk!).
I mounted my sons sand cast on wood and painted shells with his name and date. It makes a great wall hanging for their room or the beach house. Perfect for memory making at the beach.
