Shell Heart with Sand Background
During the most stressful times in life I always find myself longing for a stroll on the beach. There is nothing on this earth that calms the spirit like walking on the sand, feeling the wind and gazing at the churning seas.
But what I love even more than that is finding "treasures". The treasures I find are usually quite tiny, and passed over by everyone else. You know: tiny shells, pretty pebbles, opaque sea glass. Everyone sees the big shells. But the small stuff? ...most people walk right past, never even looking down. But life is like that, you have to find treasure in the small moments of life. If you are always looking to that "big" break to make you happy in life, it will probably elude you. |
This heart is made from just such a thing, tiny treasures put together to make a something much more grand. Just like life, all those little moments, added up, equal something big a beautiful.
This craft is fun and easy to do with a minimum of materials. Everything was recycled or "found". It cost $1 for the old 80's picture frame: shells and sand from the beach.
MATERIALS: Frame (remove glass), 1/2 c. sand and whatever shells or seaglass you have on hand, Elmer's glue ( I know use ALeene's for these projects, it's much better), spray adhesive glue and paint.
To Start: Paint the frame any color you desire.
Next: take the cardboard backing and spread elmers glue over the whole thing.

Using a sifter, lightly sift sand over the glue until the cardboard no longer shows through. Then spray a glue adhesive over the top (this keeps the sand from shedding
ter the sifted sand has throughly dried, draw a heart-outline with elmers glue. Make it fairly thick.
Fill in the outside lines of the heart with small, uniform size shells. Make sure they have plenty of glue to hold them (it will dry clear).
Remember to look for the small moments (treasures) that, in summation, make up a joyful life!

Some build sand castles at the beach, I make art in sand to pass the time. I find the treasures then arrange and re-arrange and take pictures. You can make the pictures into post cards or greeting cards and use throughout the year. People love them!
